The stimulation of some whole fish caused quite a stir in Art class this morning.
“I’ve never seen one of those before!” – R
We started by identifying the parts of the fish we have been learning specifically in our Science – gills, fins, scales and then had a good close look at them.
As part of our bird exploration this half term we have been turning our hand to continuous line drawing of feathers. Some us found the ‘messy’ style of this kind of drawing very tricky to get our heads around but others managed to use this style to great effect!
1TH always visit the library on Friday mornings where we love sharing a story, choosing our own text to take home and spending some time reading in the rabbit holes with our friends. It’s a highlight of our week!
What better way to explore carnivores, herbivores and omnivores than to get hands on with some animal ‘poo’. We loved asking questions about our poo, exploring what was hidden inside and then drawing the animal we thought might have produced this!
We have been looking at the greater than > , less than < and equal to = symbols this week and using them with a variety of different Maths representations. Some of us were exploring giant playing cards and others using Numicon to draw around.
We’ve been enjoying getting outside in the cold sunshine this week to build, represent and play number track games on our big number lines. We collaborated so well to play some games together and showed off our number line knowledge.
We have been talking about the Creation Story which many Christians believe in (Genesis) over the last few weeks. We have acted this out and today we all chose a day and painted a section of the story to make a big class collage! We enjoyed singing ‘He’s got the whole world in his hands’ in assembly and we could all talk about something special someone had given us and how we would treat this gift well. Many children could talk about distinct actions we could take to look after our gift of a world.
This afternoon we were busy building islands out of playdough. This was such a good assessment tool to see any misconceptions about islands – ‘they are always in the sea’ or ‘islands have palm trees and coconuts’. We found some islands on the map of the European continent and then we looked at some landlocked countries.
As part of our bird collage project we explored printing with a range of fruits and vegetables this morning. We used complementary colours to achieve maximum contrast in our designs and they turned out so well! We are going to be using these patterned papers to create 3D collage birds in a few weeks time.
Following on from our fruit tasting we thought we would take our observational drawing to the next level with an invitation to create a still life of the fruit. We used a mix of mediums – oil pastels, pencils, coloured pencils and watercolours to explore different texture and effects.
