Titanic musical experience

This afternoon we’ve had a visit from some musicians who showed us what it might’ve been like on the Titanic! They played us a mix of different music from all around the world to show us the different type of music you would have heard in 1912. It was great fun and we had a lovely time dancing and listening to different musical instruments.

Arts Fortnight

We had such a wonderful Arts Fortnight in 1TH! Our topic last half term was Flourishing Me, where we learnt all about how plants and flowers grow. We also looked at human and physical features in Geography, and we learnt about how we could flourish too through our PSHE lessons.
We worked so hard to learn our dance, especially with how many challenges we faced. We only ended up with a few chances to practice but everyone did so well and I was so proud of them!
Thank you to the grown ups who attended the celebration, it was lovely to see so many of you. Here are a few photos from the different activities we did.

Mental Health Week

This week has been Mental Health Week around school. On Thursday, the children all wore green but the rest of the week has been filled with lots of different activities too. On Tuesday, we went on an Emoji Hunt around the School Orchard, where we searched for the different emotions and vocabulary to describe them. We also came up with a Class pledge, that has been displayed on the tree at the front of school. This week we have really committed to this pledge and it has been lovely seeing the children looking out for each other as we start our Arts Fortnight.

“We will listen to someone and show them kindness when they are sad.”

Our Disgusting Sandwich

This week, we have been coming up with lots of ideas in preparation for our Hot Write next week. We’ve discussed different settings: places that our story might take place, the adjectives to describe it and what could happen to the sandwich there. We’ve also taken some bread for an adventure around school! We took the bread for a walk and as we went, we came up with ideas of things that might happen to it. We sat our bread on a pond, dropped it on bark and ‘tripped’ up, kicking the bark all over it, and we even stepped on it to see how flat it would become! We came up with some great ideas and adjectives and we can’t wait to use them in our writing next week!

Art and sunshine

we have had such a lovely time in the sunshine so far this week! We’ve really tried to make the most of it by spending lots of time outdoors. Lots of us were busy with Mrs Whittaker planting lettuce with forest school at the start of the week, and we’ve tried to have some snack and stories in the sun too!
at the beginning of the week we went for a walk around school to find anything from nature that we could use to make our own collages of a plant. We used what we have been learning about in Science, and discussed the different things we might find, such as sticks, leaves, grass, seeds and even petals from flowers. We thought carefully about the different materials we could use for the different parts of a plant and came up with some lovely ideas.
We worked in pairs for this as we’ve been thinking about how to work as a team in 1TH, so we used our listening skills and helped each other the design and create our plant collages. One team even got a Team Ant postcard for working well together!

computing

Today we’ve been looking at how computers sort different objects into groups by labelling them. We learned that an object could be mistaken for something else by being described, rather than given a label. We tried to be really specific with our descriptions and labels and we found it really challenging!
We were resilient with our work though and worked 8n groups to organise different objects into groups. There was some great class discussion about whether the items could be “something to play with” as well as “something to eat” or “something to write with”. It proved quite challenging, but our teamwork was super!

Tudor houses

This week we have been finishing off our Tudor houses for the Great Fire of London burning next week! The children have planned, designed and painted their boxes over the last couple of weeks, and I’m so impressed with how much care they have taken with their designs.

Science Week

This week has been Science Week! As we’ve been learning about the seasons and now that it is Springtime, we have made our weather charts to be able to track the weather when we are at school. We had a discussion about whether we should include things like snowy or hot days as these might not be as likely to see over the next week and the children had some interesting observations about the weather we have seen recently. The children can use these to point the arrow at the correct weather type and next week we will record the different weather we have seen.

World Book Day

We’ve had great fun today in our wonderful traditional tales costumes! The children worked hard this morning with our usual lessons, and then this afternoon we got to read some twisted fairytales and even started to write our own! This is for a competition to create our own twisted traditional tales which we will be announcing the winners of in our Flourishing Learners Celebration next week.

Daffodils in spring

This week we have noticed the first signs of Spring! In Science we’re starting a new topic about the seasons, and now that it’s starting to look like Spring we drew some daffodils. We used watercolour and crayons to add colour to them, and discussed the different signs of Spring that we’ve seen outside.
